Christchurch to Queenstown via Mt Cook: Private Two Day Tour

From Garden City to Alpine Majesty: A Two-Day Journey from Christchurch to Queenstown via Aoraki/Mount Cook

Day 1: Christchurch to Aoraki/Mount Cook

Our journey commences in Christchurch, where we'll leave behind the city's vibrant gardens and traverse the picturesque Canterbury Plains, gradually ascending towards the foothills of the mighty Southern Alps. We'll pause in the charming town of Geraldine, known for its arts and crafts scene, before venturing into the Mackenzie Basin, a high-country expanse named after a legendary sheep rustler.

Prepare to be mesmerised by the stunning turquoise hues of glacial lakes Tekapo and Pukaki. We'll make scenic stops at each, offering ample opportunities to capture the beauty of these natural wonders. Then, we'll turn our gaze towards Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, home to New Zealand's highest peak and a collection of twenty other mountains exceeding 3,000 meters.

Upon arrival at Aoraki/Mount Cook, you'll have the option to embark on guided walks tailored to your interests and fitness level, immersing yourself in the alpine grandeur. If time and weather permit, we may even venture to witness the Tasman Glacier, the longest glacier in a temperate zone—a truly awe-inspiring sight.

Day 2: Aoraki/Mount Cook to Queenstown

For those seeking an even more exhilarating experience, you can choose to embark on a scenic flight (optional) that includes a landing on the Tasman Glacier, offering an unparalleled perspective of this icy giant.

As we bid farewell to Aoraki/Mount Cook, our journey south continues through the Mackenzie Country, passing by the otherworldly "Clay Cliffs" of Omarama. Crossing the Lindis Pass, you'll witness a dramatic shift in the landscape as we enter the Otago province, heading towards the adventure capital of Queenstown.

Before reaching our final destination, we'll stop at the Kawarau Gorge, where you can witness the birthplace of bungy jumping and marvel at the iconic bungy bridge. We'll also visit the historic gold mining village of Arrowtown, steeped in tales of the gold rush era.

Finally, we'll arrive in Queenstown, where your knowledgeable Canterbury Trails guide will provide a brief orientation of the town and its surroundings before dropping you off at your accommodation.

This two-day journey is a perfect blend of scenic beauty, outdoor adventure, and cultural exploration, offering a unique and personalised experience.
